Now that artful Georgetown cake bakery Deep Sea Sugar and Salt’s large new location is operating at full steam at the Carleton Avenue Grocery, owner Charlie Dunmire has closed the adorable Airstream trailer that previously housed her business.
Dunmire announced the trailer’s closure on Facebook, saying, “It broke our hearts a little to have to say goodbye,” but “folks would rather come visit us at the new shop, and it’s just not worth splitting our resources.” Without the trailer, Deep Sea should be able to focus on other events. There’s also a hint of a possible goodbye party for the trailer, but no official word yet.
Dunmire has been in the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall since 2016; prior to that, she baked where she could find the space and did special orders only. Early this year, on the success of a $35,000 Kickstarter campaign, Dunmire renovated the historic Georgetown building at 6601 Carleton Ave. S, where she now sells sell her impressive cakes — like the elegant London Fog, an Earl Grey-infused beauty with bergamot mascarpone cream and cream cheese frosting — alongside grocery essentials, Sweet Lo’s ice cream, fresh flowers, and drip coffee.
