Texas-Style Barbecue Is On Its Way to South Lake Union

Sodo-based Jack’s BBQ brings its Texas-style smoked ribs, brisket, and sausage to South Lake Union

Jack’s BBQ is expanding to South Lake Union.

Jack’s BBQ, the Sodo restaurant renowned for its Central Texas-style barbecue, is adding a South Lake Union restaurant the week of January 28. The menu will focus on the same array of smoked meats — like brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage — that has made owner Jack Timmons’ restaurant a go-to for barbecue lovers in Seattle. This is the second of two planned expansions for the restaurant, which recently added a Columbia Tower food court location.

The menu will be the same as that of the successful Sodo location. Mornings will bring breakfast tacos loaded with brisket, cheddar jalapeno sausage, or vegetables, from 7 to 9 a.m. After that, the offerings switch to plates and sandwiches featuring smoked meat and sides like potato salad and collard greens. Fans of Jack’s Safeco Field menu will also notice the addition of the formerly ballpark-exclusive Sausage Dog, made with brisket chili, cheese, and jalapenos, to this new restaurant.

While the exact opening date hasn’t been announced yet, the new restaurant (228 9th Ave N) will host Wayne Mueller of the respected Louie Mueller Barbecue in Austin, Texas on January 22. Starting at noon, Mueller will dole out bites of his restaurant’s beef ribs smoked at Jack’s in Sodo. Later that night, at 6 p.m., he’ll give a talk about the history of Texas barbecue, at the Sodo restaurant. The beef ribs will be available then, too. There’s no advanced ticket purchase required.
