- Chef Kristi Brown, who owns the catering company That Brown Girl Cooks, will open a restaurant with her son, Damon Bomar, in the Central District’s new Liberty Bank building. She’ll cook her riffs on soul food, which incorporates diverse influences. The restaurant will have a bar and chef’s table, plus a commercial kitchen.
- Mutsuko Soma is opening a sake bar two doors down from her Fremont soba restaurant, Kamonegi. The new spot, to be called Hannyatou, will sling sake flights, sell retail sake, and serve a menu built around fermentation. It should open in March.
- Downtown’s Thompson hotel closed its ground-floor restaurant, Scout. The hotel is redesigning the space, and will open a new restaurant there in the spring. Details are still TBD.
- Chef Brendan McGill has sold his Hitchcock Deli in Georgetown to his general manager, John Richards. The four-year-old cafe will become Georgetown Deli and Market, with a soup, salad, and sandwich menu plus a retail side for buying necessaries like local produce and household items. The handoff takes place February 1, with the changes setting in by March 1.
