An exciting new addition to Seattle’s beer scene opened in the final days of 2018. Future Primitive Brewing, a collaborative effort from some of Seattle’s best beer minds, started pouring its first beers on December 21, setting up shop in the former home of Big Al Brewing in White Center.
The brewery pours a range of beer styles, including barrel-aged brews. Opening beers include Birthday Suit, a pale ale; Black River, an oatmeal stout; Moment, a Belgian blonde; and Young One, a barley wine. The building has two bars: a lower-level bar with nine taps, and an upper level one with several more. The brewery doesn’t currently serve food — though it promises to add that component soon — so for now, patrons are welcome to bring in outside grub.
The new brewery — originally set to be named Unified Brewing — combines the talents of Kevin Watson, whose resume includes a run as lead innovation brewer at Elysian Brewing as well as time at Maine’s highly regarded Allagash Brewing Company; Mike Baker, who founded South Park’s Baron Brewing Company; Dean Hudgins and Ian Roberts, owners of the Pine Box and founders of Seattle Beer Week; and brewery partner Larry Solomon.
Future Primitive ushers in the latest boozy chapter at 9832 14th Ave SW, home to Pacific Rim Brewing before Big Al.
