A big sugar rush has arrived near campus. Cooking dough specialists Sugar and Spoon — an offshoot to the popular food truck of the same name — has recently opened a permanent outpost in the U District. The light blue and pink walkup window on 4518 University Way NE serves egg-free, heat-treated flour cookie dough in a variety of flavors, such as oatmeal cookie, chocolate chip, and a seasonal pumpkin pie. Diners can get the treats in cups or waffle cones, adding ice cream if the mood should strike.
Sugar and Spoon got its start last October, serving scoops of cookie dough out of a colorful food truck with weekly appearances in Westlake Park and beyond. It gradually built a following, and has partnered with fellow dessert shops, such as Donut Factory, for special promotions on occasion.
While cookie dough-specific shops have been popping up across the country for years, this is a rarity for the Seattle area. Besides the ice cream shops and markets that sell edible cookie dough, there’s Sweet Treats Cookie Dough in Snoqualmie, WA. But Sugar and Spoon may be a tad more convenient for college students with a sweet tooth.
