Well-received Phorale, the South Park mini-mart food counter specializing in a mash-up of Asian and Tex-Mex flavors that closed last January, will soon have new life as a food truck. Despite a tiny kitchen, Phorale became a cult favorite with dishes including twists on the banh mi sandwich, pho, spicy pork egg rolls, and curly fries smothered in habañero queso, cilantro aioli, and grilled spicy pork or marinated beef.
Phorale will make its debut as a food truck outside of Georgetown’s Bar Ciudad on March 23. Co-owners Young Cho and Jimmy Bui will open for business at 3 p.m., with music starting at 5 p.m. The truck’s schedule after the grand opening celebration is still TBD.
Cho recently became a part owner of popular food truck It’s Bao Time, which closed last month after four years. Cho has repurposed the It’s Bao Time truck for the rebirth of Phorale.
