Portuguese-Style Grilled Chicken Chain Makes Inroads in Western Washington

Canadian-owned company Galos Flame Grilled Chicken, which specializes in Portuguese-style grilled chicken, opened the first of several planned western Washington franchises last week in Ballard. The quick-service restaurant is also opening locations in Kirkland, the new Google headquarters building in South Lake Union, Tacoma, and Bellingham. The Ballard restaurant is the company’s first U.S. location.

The menu centers around grilled chicken in a number of iterations: by the quarter or half bird; in salads, burgers, wraps, and bowls; and in “meals” paired with sides like garlic bread, rice, coleslaw, and baked potatoes. Much of the menu is flavored with piri piri, a spice made from hot peppers.

The first Seattle restaurant set up shop at 907 NW Ballard Way, Unit 100, near the New Seasons Market.
