One of Seattle’s biggest seafood empires is adding yet another outpost. Ivar’s — famous for its fish ‘n’ chips and chowders — opened a new Seafood Bar in Kirkland today at 5910 Lake Washington Blvd NE. On the menu are those aforementioned Ivar’s specialties, plus grilled Alaskan salmon BLTs, halibut with wild rice, cornbread, and coleslaw, and Pacific true cod tacos. Not every one of Ivar’s Seafood Bars serves alcohol, but this particular location has beer and wine, plus an outdoor patio with views of nearby Houghton Beach and seating for around 78.
Unlike the chain’s full service restaurants such as Ivar’s Acres of Clams and the Salmon House, Ivar’s Seafood Bars tend to be more fast casual spots, where customers order at the counter. They also have a slightly different menu, emphasizing more salads and sandwiches at lower price points.
The Seafood Bars are also more ubiquitous — Kirkland marks the offshoot’s 22nd location, and the Eastside is represented well, with outposts in Bellevue, Issaquah, and Renton. The new restaurant will be open daily, from 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m.
