CBD-infused drinks may well be the next major beverage trend, and a new Seattle company is going all in. Cleen Craft (officially written as clēēn:craft) recently opened a production space and tasting room in Belltown, giving customers the chance to try the sparkling drinks in cocktails and mocktails. The tasting room also serves beer, wine, four-packs of the soda, complementary samples, and growler fills.
Cleen Craft is co-founded by Seattle restaurateur Marcus Charles, whose many projects include the Crocodile Cafe and Local 360. The sparkling drinks, which come in lime, ginger, and cola flavors, are made from juice concentrates and cane sugar and contain 2mg of CBD per ounce. CBD, or cannabidiol, is the non-intoxicating chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Though touted for a wide variety of health benefits from lowering anxiety to treating pain to reducing and stopping seizures, and growing in popularity for casual consumption, CBD is not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.
Cleen Craft’s 1,100-square-foot space (2230 2nd Ave) has seating for 45 people, plus a small sidewalk patio with seating for 16. The tasting room is open Thursday through Saturday, from 4 p.m. to midnight.
