Buzzy New Taco Pop-up Lupe’s Situ Sets Up Shop at Tractor Tavern
Musician Lupe Flores (drummer for the bands Wild Powwers, Tacos the Band, and LORBO) got some critical attention last fall for her Lebanese-Mexican taco pop-up, praised for its delicately fried tortillas. Now, she’s found a more permanent home at popular Ballard music venue Tractor Tavern, reports The Stranger. The tacos come in three varieties: Lebanese brown butter beef, creamy garlic potatoes, and spicy cauliflower, with sides that include coleslaw and chips and guacamole, with rotating soup flavors. Though the Tractor Tavern is not hosting concerts at the moment, live shows are slowly on their way back in Seattle, so Lupe’s could see an influx of new business soon. Even as a takeout-only stand, Lupe’s apparently already saw a great deal of success already, selling out “3 times over” during its grand opening weekend.
Aloo Tikki Burgers Coming to Capitol Hill Soon
Bombay Burger — a new fast-casual joint focusing on Indian cuisine — is coming to Capitol Hill soon. Restaurateur Amadreep Singh tells Eater Seattle the menu will be mostly “Indian fusion,” with patties that could include aloo tikki twists, curried chickpeas, and lamb. Details are still coming into focus, but Singth says the aim is to open up by the end of April. When it debuts, Bombay Burger will take over the space at 15th Avenue and Madison Street formerly occupied by Vietnamese spot Pho Huy. Capitol Hill Seattle first reported on the coming attraction.
Downtown Landmark Smith Tower Reopens for Dining
One sky-high touristy drinks spot is on the comeback trail. The Smith Tower downtown recently reopened the Observatory for food and drinks again after shutting down in the fall. There’s a happy hour special from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (which includes bento boxes, beer, champagne, wine, and cocktails), as well as an option to order takeout drinks for curbside pickup. Like all other restaurants, the Smith Tower’s Observatory must adhere to COVID regulations around indoor dining, including masking up when not eating and drinking, and limiting capacity to 50 percent. It’s also instituted some recent additional sanitation measures. Built in 1914 (and once the tallest building west of the Mississippi), the Smith Tower is one of Seattle’s most recognizable historic landmarks, and has become an events space, in addition to housing offices.
