10 Seattle Shakes to Go with Those Fries

Bent Burgers
The Chai Tea shake is some kinda wonderful. Owner Dan Bent says he uses a secret ice cream for all the 17 shakes he and his family serve in their neighborhood joint.

Bluebird Ice Cream
The Elysian Stout milkshake has ice cream made with Dragon's Tooth Stout and it is extraordinarily good. Not for you? Then how about a Snickerdoodle or Chocolate Pudding milkshake? For vegans there’s the Mighty-O (vegan) Brownie batter shakes with chocolate donut chunks and coconut milk. All shakes are made on the spot with the ice cream flavors in the shop that day.

Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery
Autumn Martin’s boozy shakes can’t be beat, especially the Extra Dark Caramel, Espresso and Rye. The rye is Old Overholt and you’ll feel it by the time your frantic straw sucking makes that annoying bottom-of-the-glass noise. $10.

Kidd Valley
If you’re near the Kidd when you’re thirsty, get one of their creamy root beer milkshakes, or the chilly boysenberry, strawberry or pineapple shakes, which have chunks of fruit in them.

Li'l Woody's
Molly Moon ice cream makes its way into the shakes here, and they are a delight. The basic flavors excel, like Theo chocolate, vanilla bean and strawberry, and the salted caramel gets raves. $5.

West Seattle’s lune-iest café has awesome cherry milkshakes, and about 16 other flavors made for warm days. $5.29.

Lunchbox Laboratory
Served in beakers (the lab reference) the ice cream shakes come normal, like the Nutella, and in boozers. The Tropics Colada has a test tube spike of Malibu Coconut, Midori, and Malibu Passion Fruit to goose up the vanilla ice cream, pina colada flavors, and Coco Lopez. $10.

Ma'ono Fried Chicken & Whiskey
If you like coconut you’re gonna do an involuntary vertical hula over the Haupia Shake, based on that worthy Hawaiian dessert. They finish it with shaved young coconut and whipped cream and only charge $7 for happiness that’ll last a week.

Phnom Penh Noodle House
Grow some hair on your 36DD’s with the Durian shake at this ID Cambodian café. The horrendously smelly durian fruit loses its man stank in the shake, and it ends up tasting like sweet fruit. It also comes with bragging rights. $3.

Rain City Burgers
The rich caramel milkshake reigns at this crowded Roosevelt burger joint. Made with hand dipped ice cream it is a definite lip smacker. There are 11 more flavors which you may never get to. $3.99.
