Due to a rapid rise in COVID cases, Gov. Jay Inslee has banned indoor gatherings with people outside one’s household (unless specific quarantine and testing precautions are taken beforehand) and urged all Washingtonians to cancel Thanksgiving plans. But even though visiting family and friends is out, those staying home can still get some excellent holiday food, without having to cook. Eater already published a takeout guide that highlighted some family meal kits from restaurants, but for those who are dining solo — or with just one other person — a la carte takeout menus and single serving meals may be more practical. Here are a few options to consider, listed from west to east.

Bainbridge Island’s modern Vietnamese restaurant is another restaurant with some Thanksgiving meal flexibility, offering both a full-fledged family meal and items a la carte. The latter includes a full roasted duck, sausage and shrimp risotto, fermented shrimp and chili green, and almond cassava cakes, with bottles of wine available for add-ons.

Among the five holiday meal choices at chef Eric Rivera’s Ballard restaurant lab, the Friendsgiving option may be the best suited for solo diners. The $25-per-person kit includes a sazon turkey leg, green beans with roasted carrots, mashed potatoes with gravy, pumpkin flan made from a family recipe, and a quart of sangria. Plenty for one, without breaking the bank.

Diners looking for something a little fancier may want to consider the Goldfinch Tavern’s Thanksgiving takeout kit, which has the option of “per person” orders. The $80 meal from the Downtown restaurant is a three-course affair, with smoked salmon crostinis, organic turkey or Moroccan roasted cauliflower, sweet potato mash, and pumpkin tart for dessert.

Among the “per person” Thanksgiving meals around town, this Capitol Hill bar appears to offer a good deal of flexibility. There are the main dishes — herb roasted turkey, buttermilk rolls with whipped sweet butter, winter squash and yams — and an array of sides priced reasonably, plus bottles of bubbly and wine.

Though this lauded Capitol Hill vegan restaurant has a larger family feast option for Thanksgiving, most of the same items included are available a la carte, such as the maple-glazed seitan roast, harvest squash, roasted mushrooms, and the famed Mac ‘n’ Yease. Extra cranberry pear sauce can be added to orders, too.

Spice Waala

Those who want to think outside the turkey box may consider Spice Waala’s new offering. There’s a $25 smoked tandoori chicken available for preordering, which should be plenty enough for one or two people, with leftovers.

For those who’d rather order by the serving (rather than a whole, all-in-one package), Pinehurst’s Jewish deli offers such an option. Preorders are available on eight ounces of a brined and smoked turkey breast from Mary’s, roasted carrots and garlic mashed potatoes at $25 per person. There’s also the option to add pies (apple, pecan, pumpkin, apricot or berry) and turkey legs.
