Where to Eat in Leavenworth This Summer

Whether you're into all the Bavarian business or not

View as Map

It's true: Bavarian-themed Leavenworth is super cheesy. But if you look beyond the facades, this mountain town about two hours from Seattle is also super delicious, with plenty of worthwhile restaurants and German-style biergartens to patronize. From open-air bratwurst-and-beer spots where you can comfortably wear your muddy hiking pants, to more dressed-up affairs, Leavenworth has it all.

Next time you're in Leavenworth to hike, raft, visit the Nutcracker Museum, or get drunk and float down the Wenatchee River in a tube, use this guide to help cut through the sensory overload that is the core of downtown's many shops and restaurants.

Note: Map points are listed in geographical order from north to south; no ranking is implied. Did we miss your favorite? Show it some love in the comments, send an email, or start a forum thread in its honor.

Strudels, danishes, pretzels, cakes, and more: This place has everything. There's minimal seating, but if the weather's nice you should take your treat for a stroll along the nearby Wenatchee River.

Two former owners of Seattle's now closed but much praised vegetarian restaurant Sutra have put down roots in Leavenworth. Expect a high-end, prix fixe experience similar to Sutra, though this time there are some (local, sustainable) meats in the mix, too.

Sulla Vita

The wood-fired oven sets the tone here. You should order a bunch of small plates and dive into the wine list, which is one of the best in town. Reasonably priced, too.

Icicle Brewing Company

Locals think of this spot as their town's living room, and it's the perfect place to hang out and knock back a few pints on a sunny day. Add to that a few beer cocktails and a small menu of outstanding bar bites, and this is one place you'll want to linger.

Fresh Burger Cafe

Killer hamburgers, soups, salads, and sandwiches, all made with ingredients sourced as locally as possible. You also have the option to build your own burger, which is always appreciated.

Idlewild Pizza

Idlewild, now a part of Blewett Brewing, celebrates the delightful pairing of wood-fired pizza and craft beer. Save room for the from-scratch chocolate chip cookies.

Go for the food and the cocktails; you can't go wrong with either. The menu consists of an array of Latin fare, from ceviche to fish tacos to Argentine steak. Oh, and there's a German sausage, too, just in case.

Pavz Bistro Cafe

Cheese made in-house goes into the crepes here, the restaurant's biggest draw. Also highly recommended: the steak and eggs breakfast sandwich or the Northwest halibut.

Mozart's

Last year, Mozart's reinvented itself. It's always been well-respected, but now it's a sure-bet. Expect German recipes, sure, but that theme isn't overblown. It's blended instead with other European dishes and a few generic but well-constructed options, too. There's also been a shift towards house cocktails, and the restaurant presents a strong list.

Bavarian Bistro

How can you not crave German food in Leavenworth? Thankfully, this place has your schnitzel and sausage hankerings covered. Wash it all down with 20 choices of German and domestic beers on tap.

The menu is farm-to-table, with plenty of Pacific Northwest ingredients, so expect a new experience every time you visit. There's a sweet patio, too, with mountain views.

The outdoor patio here is as much of a draw as the brats, and on super hot days there are misters to keep you cool. The sausage is made in-house and there's a great selection including currywurst, kielbasa, chorizo, and more.
